Auto Detailing Secrets of the Pros: Lesson #4
How to wash a car (sounds idiotic, but there is rhyme to the reason here.//)

SO..you think you know how to wash a car, right?

OK..what is YOUR step one..?

1) Fill the bucket. (ok)
2) Get some water (ok)
3) Rinse car (WRONG)..

Lets start over..

1) Fill the bucket (with what?)
Palmolive? NO!!! UNLESS you want to strip your wax off, a much milder soap needs to be used. Choose any reliable car wash soap such as Meguiars, Turtle Wax et al..
We use a product called Granitize (professional)

2) Get some water (ok- but iof you can get deionized it will save you the hassle of drying!! Deionized water rids the water of any impurities (mineral deposits) which create water spots. If your so inclined, Distilled water will work too..but it might get pricey to buy!

3) We like to presoak any dirty parts PRIOR to rinsing..it makes washing more effective and saves time (meaning MONEY!)
SO, get some degreaser and get your door jambs (if you like clean jambs like we do!
Get the wheels with either the degreaser or wheel cleaner. If your washing your engine, CAREFULLY (see another tip section for this..it alone is a Lesson!) wash and apply with degreaser.

NOW, get your water and rinse. If you have a wash wand carefully get your jambs clean without soaking the interior of the car. If you are cleaning floor mats, you can also have those outside the car and after brushing them with either degreaser (dilluted) or household carpet cleaner, rinse those with pressure and hang in sun to dry or use wet dry vac then hang.

Once you have thoroughly wet the car and rinsed the presoaked parts, soap your car, top down (from the top to the bottom).

Now, rinse again, and be sure you are not in the sun if possible to get ready to dry.

When drying, use your shammy and dry the chrome and glass first, then any parts nearest the sun, working your way top down. If you have compressed air, blow air in the panel seams, mouldings, mirrors, and any other places water will surely run out once you are done.
Voila! You have washed your car! Bad news..now you have to clean the interior, detail the engine, and wax/buff the exterior.
Plenty of more lessons..

Until next time,
