Auto Detailing: Secrets of the Pros: Lesson #3

Here is some info ANY person, whether they are a Detailer or just want to learn how to take care of their investment (see the word CAR here!), can do just like a pro!

Foul smells, or how to get rid of 'em!

If youve ever had your car skunked with cat odor, or cigarette odor, you might know what a pain in the bu** it is to remove those pesky smells.

The key to the equation is that the odors actually permeate the ducting, and the fibers of the interior!

So, what to do next?

A) First, lets go mild. If we dont get results, we will slowly go more wild.

1) Try shampooing the carpet and seats.
If that doesnt do it,

2) Add step 2- Take Scrubbing bubbles (cleaner in aerosol form at any grocery store etc) and with a soft brush, clean the headliner)
If that doesnt do it,

3) Quit.

NO! Just kidding..! There are more things you can do!

1) Find the air intake near the floorboards (usually on the passenger side of your car under the dash) This is where air is drawn into the fresh air system to blow back out the vents. Take a microbial killer or (even listerene works!) and spray into the ducting. This is to help kill the slime that has been deposited in the ducting of your car that gets blown in your face each time you drive. Spray a small amount into the duct, then run your air on recirculate cycle for 20-30 minutes.

If that doesnt do it,

You will need to get an ozone machine or rent/borrow one:

Ozone machines KILL the source of the smell, provided you have removed the brunt of it with shampoo etc.

Happy smelling!
